Advantages of Using VPN connection

The advantages of using VPN (Virtual Private Network) is that is helps secure your personal information, work information, etc. that we are sending online or stored in a cloud. A VPN can also help by hiding things like your IP address, cookies tracked by websites, internet browsers, location and more. 

What is a VPN and How Do You Use It?

A VPN is used to keep your information safe while you are using the internet. This could be on your phone, laptop, tablet, etc. You can use a VPN to put your device on a private secure network so that your information is always secure when you’re online. 

It also provides a layer of security where it can mask your whereabouts and your internet footprints such as search history, bookmarks, etc. These are just some of the advantage of using VPN.

Luckily, if you have an iPhone, Apple has made it easy and ready available to use the VPN and it comes already installed for the newer iPhones in the settings tab. This would be your own personal VPN connection that you can use.

Of course, you can always download a VPN app like Express VPN (best VPN for iPhones) or Proton VPN (best for free version for iOS) that would give you a bit more features, but I find the one Apple installed in the phone works good enough for me.

How Does a VPN Work?

As I may have mentioned earlier, but a VPN is basically a secure internet connection with whatever device you’re using it on.

This means that all of your information online is private and secured. Internet companies, Internet browsers, third party extensions, or anyone for that matter cannot access your information. Even if they were to try and get into your device to access information, whatever they would receive would be unreadable and useless.

There are 2 types of VPNs:

Remote Access

Remote access VPN lets users who are working remotely to have secure access to all information and access to applications from your job. All of the information that you use and view for work is encrypted as well. 

The remote access VPN is creating a personal network connection between your organization and the user. Sensitive information can be sent and received/viewed in a more private and secure way. 

Site to Site

Site to site VPN is a secured connection between at least two or more networks, such as the main corporate network, regional network, and branch office network. Companies who have many different geographical locations have been using site to site VPN.

For example, I work from home currently with my full time job. I am fully remote but I deal with sensitive documents every day. My company currently has offices across the United States so they use site to site VPN. This allows a private network to come through from one of the branches office’s assigned network. 

One of the ways I can tell that my VPN is active on my work computer is that before I log into my VPN network, I can choose between two locations to connect to and it’ll show that connection’s state.

This is very beneficial regarding your professional life because it adds that extra blanket of security. I’ve never had any issues with my VPN and it’s always working. I also haven’t had any security breaches as of yet.

Do I Need a VPN?

If you worry about intruders getting access to your personal information I recommend getting a VPN. It’s best practice to always make sure your information is secure especially while you’re using the internet at home. 

For example, the internet service provider Xfinity has plenty of Wifi spots to connect to. If you connect to a random Xfinity Wifi hotspot without using a VPN app on your phone or computer there’s a chance that someone can access and get your personal information just by using the public Xfinity Wifi. This is one just one of the many advantage of using VPN. You would be able to browse the internet safely.

What Devices Does a VPN Work On?

The way that a VPN works is you have to download an extension for your internet browser. For your mobile devices, you’d have to just go download an app. Here are many VPN apps and extensions you can choose from. 

Any technical devices can enjoy using a VPN. When you activate your VPN I notice my phone location shows a different city/state while I’m using the internet.

I personally use my iPad Pro a lot so I’m always making sure it’s connected to a VPN connection whether at home or mobile.

The benefits of having a VPN are pretty good especially with some of the extra features they offer.

In today’s world, there is a lot of working from home happening at the moment and will probably only increase. Having a VPN at home makes sure that all the information that your dealing with is secure and no one can gain access to it. VPN is just as secure as if you were working in the office. 

Variety of Online Streaming Options

Some perks of having a VPN is nice. Since using a VPN is hiding your location you’re able to switch your location to that country so you can be able to watch. For instance, UK or Canada shows that wouldn’t normally be accessible if you didn’t have a VPN. Ultimately, you would be able to bypass geo-blocked content in other countries. This is one of the best advantages of using VPN.

Gaming speed

Since one of the advantages of using VPN is that no one can access how much internet you have used. The Internet service providers can’t slow down your gaming speed since they do not know how much you have used. So your gaming internet speed would get faster.

Most VPN apps or extensions are either free or on the cheaper side when you start. Most are no more than $13 a month for a really good VPN.

There are many advantages of using VPN. Everything we do most of the time is online. So it’s always good to make sure you’re squared away and secured. It’s shockingly easy for someone to take my information online if my VPN isn’t connected. Having a secure virtual private network (VPN) will always give you an extra layer of protection when you are browsing the internet.
